Temas Diarios - Interpersonal Grade
Students will answer a question on the Topic of the Day.
They will have about 10 minutes everyday to answer the question.
They must write a paragraph (5-6 sentences).
Then will be asked to speak about the Topic of the Day with their classmates.
A Daily grade will be assigned for the speaking portion.
Every six-weeks, I will do a notebook check and students will receive a Quiz grade.
They will be graded for quality and depth about the topic and also for quantity.
If a student is absent he/she is responsible to find out the question of the day and answer it. (not copy your partners answer)
In order to further define the use of Culture, we must also look at the following:
In other words it’s the what, how, and why.
Products refers to those products that are tangible (e.g., tools, books) and intangible (e.g., laws, conventions, institutions).
Practices refers to patterns of social interactions within a culture.
Perspectives refers to the values, attitudes, and assumptions that underlie both practices and products.

Podcast Instructions
PUNTOS CARDINALES is a weekly podcast broadcasted by the United Nations. Each PODCAST has international news stories that vary in length. Listen to 3 podcasts and complete the worksheet.
The podcasts contains news stories about current events, culture and/or a little bit of everything.
Every six-weeks, students will select 3 PODCAST to listen and write about it.
Then they will pick one of the 3 news stories to report/present to their classmates.
The written portion and the oral portion will count as a major grade.
Students will receive 50%/50% for the written/oral portion of the task. This is an Interpretive Grade.
This is a very challenging task, but with practice it will get easier. Students may have to listen to each news story several times before they can complete the writing portion. Listening comprehension is an essential skill that students need have to do well on the AP Exam.
1. Go to PUNTOS CARDINALES
2. Select 3 PODCASTS.
3. Write down the Title (Titulo) for all 3 stories. Then make predictions (predicciones) just by reading the titles of the 3 news stories.
4. Listen to each news stories. Write down Notes (apuntes) and then a short summary (resumen).
5. Select 4 words or phrases that are specialized, that you were not familiar with or that are being used in a different way than what you have seen it used before then either define it, use it in a sentence or explain it in Spanish (circumlocution).
6. Pick 1 news story and give an oral presentation. You must speak for a minimum 1-2 minutes (yes in Spanish).
I will give you time in class to complete this task and the due date will be announce and posted on the six-weeks calendar.

Extra Credit
Every six week period there is an opportunity to add 4 bonus points to your overall average by completing 100 minutes on conjuguemos.com. Students need to record and send 100 minutes within a six-week period. Only practices with a score of 70% or higher and a minimum of 20 words/verbs in 5-10 minutes will count towards extra credit. Also, there are some practices that are in paragraph form and 2 of these will count as 5 minutes (you will have to take pictures of these and email them to me). Students that do 100 minutes that meet the requirements will receive 4 extra points added to the overall average. Students must do 100 minutes to receive 4 points...all or nothing, no parthow_to_get_a_5_in_the.pdfial credit. I will collect the grades at 3pm on the due date. Due date is always the Wednesday before the end of the six weeks. Students will need to be done with their 100 minutes by then. There will be no exceptions or special accommodations made for anyone. Extra credit is given for students to practice not to use as a last minute resort. Please do not ask me for an extension, it will NOT be given!!!

Late Work School Wide Policy
Homework is due at the beginning of class. It will be considered late if not turned in at that time. LATE WORK Late work includes any assignment in any category. Students have one block day past the assigned deadline to turn in for a late grade up to a 70. After this, a student may turn in the work for a maximum of a 50, up until the Wednesday before the progress reporting deadline if it was due within the first three weeks of the six weeks. If the assignment is due in the latter half of the marking period the student may turn in the assignment until the Wednesday before the six-weeks reporting deadline. No late work is eligible for a redo.
